A New Powerpack for Christina

We just want to thank Sturge Weber- Make A Difference Grant.

For the last year we have struggled with the wheelchair powerpack that was on Christina’s wheelchair. Battery causing problems as well as frequently having to replace.

She hasn’t been allowed a power chair provided by authority due to the uncontrolled Epilepsy and they will not provide the power pack.

She is totally dependent on someone pushing her wheelchair due to her right sided weakness. Unfortunately this weakness causes the wheelchair to go round in a circle!!

As a family we have found it frustrating that this means outdoors she has no independence and added to that she is very aware of support workers having to push her in different terrains.

Without a power pack aid this limits where she goes.

So the good news is that she now has the new power pack paid for by the grant.

Via GO power pack, we were advised, is new on the market and has a lithium battery, which should avoid all the problems we had previously.

This will give her confidence knowing that she can go out without worrying about her support worker pushing her, she has always worried about this even though she is told, it isn’t her worry.

She has a lots of hidden anxieties about going out so this is going to take a big one away from her.

It’s sad that we have to rely on help but thank goodness it is now available.

Supporting Active In April to fundraise for ‘ Make A Difference Grant Scheme’ is so important as there are many that need help.

Karen, Gary and Christina.
