Dawn and Gary Macey have kindly given us permission to adapt for our site a presentation about their son Matthew Macey.
At the age of two in 1997, Matthew underwent a full right-brain hemispherectomy (removal of the right side of the brain) as treatment for severe epilepsy caused by Sturge-Weber syndrome. He is now an active teenager who has achieved four GCSEs and participates in a variety of sports, college activities and interests.
Despite suffering from partial use of his left side, he has represented his school at the sport boccia, is a keen swimmer, and took part in the Berkhamsted five-mile run.
