I hope that you have all had a lovely August and have managed to enjoy the school holidays for those members with children.
I am sure that for many families with children returning to school at the start of September it will be a more stressful time. Whilst we hope that children will finally be able to return to a more normal school setting without bubbles it is going to take September for all to settle back into the new normal.
I know for a fact I have a very grumpy 12-year-old who after 18 months of shielding is not happy about her return to school on Wednesday. On Friday when the last of my three returns to school I will be giving a loud cheer of jubilation that finally all three will be in school Monday to Friday! I am sure that I won’t be on my own in just wanting normality of some form to resume.
The trustees agreed in August that we would take a step back due to holidays and my operation, so there is little to report from us this month. Unfortunately, Lynn has made the decision to resign, and we thank her for all her hard work and wish her well for the future.
A big thank you to Peter Steele who set up a 60-mile challenge in August and raised £630 for the Charity. Also thank you to Michael Woodman and Natalie Dempsey who have raised £200 via Michael’s work. There is exciting news to be announced about an art project which will be launched so watch this space.
We have extended the date on which you can submit your Christmas card artwork. It would be lovely to receive some from the children and welcome more. Please send to support@sturgeweber.org.uk.
We do not have copies of the existing logo in the right formats for adding to websites, merchandise etc and will need to ask a graphic designer to either design a new one or copy the existing logo. A poll was added to Facebook during August asking for you to confirm as members whether you would like the trustees to rebrand the charity or keep the same logo. Only 21 members responded.
A member whose sister is a graphic designer has sent to us 6 different designs which prior to seeing we were considering just having the existing logo redone, but the drafts which were sent blew us away with how a new logo could rebrand the charity and make a more inclusive logo which covers all 3 types of Sturge Weber Syndrome. Unfortunately, we are not allowed the share the drafts and the designer was clear that they could not be changed.
The question is now being put back to you as members. Do you want to keep the existing logo or would you like the Trustees to have a new logo designed and you as members decide which version we adopt? We need to press on with this as the shop needs restocking and there is little point of doing this until we agree on the logo we are going to use.
